Online gun sale... Getting Paid
I plan on selling a rifle on line and would like to ship it from myself (I don't have an FFL) to a FFL near the purchaser and in their state. How can you "guarantee" that you get paid? How do they usually pay you (Check, post office money order)? Do I ship before I get paid?

payment
The buyer should send a cashier's check or money order along with FFL info to you before you ever ship the gun to their FFL. If you accept a personal check be sure it clears before you ship the gun. This has been standard practice on all my purchases or sales of guns.

Ask for a US Postal Service money order. This gives you double assurance because it's hard to counterfeit a money order, and if it is fraudulent, you've got the weight of the USPS and BATFE on your side because they take such fraud very seriously. The dude would be looking at federal prison time for such an offense.

Gunbroker actually guarantees the sale to the buyer, which means they will go after the seller and eventually refund your $ if the seller does not send the gun to you, so it is expected for the buyer to send payment and copy of FFL where the gun is to be sent 1st. However some buyers may aviod a seller w/ little or no feedback. I always ask for a postal or walmart $ order, and when some bonehead writes me a personal check anyway, I just hold their stuff until it clears ,no biggie. You also dont need an FFL to ship, just to receive, and a private seller can even ship to CA, where a dealer must register w/ that state 1st.
