Default New Stock for my Remington 700

I am sorry for asking such a stupid question but......I want to buy a composite stock for my 700 so I can keep the wood stock in cherry condition. So, how do I know if its a long action or short action rifle?

Howdoes a person tell if its long or short? So I dont have to ask the same question about another rifle.

Be aware that some manufacturers make up to four or five action lengths for the various cartridges.
