i have a friend who wants to trade me out of my ruger sp101 357 mag., he is offering a choice of taurus tracker's 44 mag. he has had the guns for about 6 months, i've had the ruger about two months, he said he's shot only about 200 rounds thru each one, i've shot 50 rounds thru the ruger. he's got two tracker's a 2inch barrel, and a 4inch barrel, he wants my ruger and 100 rounds of ammo for the 2inch barrel tracker, and the ruger and 200 rounds of ammo for the 4inch barrel. he says the reason for trading is he's got two 44's and just want to get a 357 mag. should i trade?, thanks for any help.

Not unless you want to lose money on the deal..... The Ruger is a far better gun than the Taurus. I can't believe he even wants ammo too! That should be the other way around, he should be offering YOU ammo to sweeten the deal.....I wouldn't do, no sir.

I wouldn't make that trade either.
He's not much of a friend, that trade is ALL one way in his favor.
You would be giving away a better pistol plus ammo on top of that... not a chance.
Why would anyone want a 44Mag with a 2in barrel, I've never shot one with that short of a barrel but I would think it could be brutal.

Well, either he has no clue what the guns are worth relative to each other and believes that a .44 Mag must, by virtue of being a larger caliber, more expensive. If this is the case he needs a reality check. Or, he knows full well what the guns are worth, thinks you don't, and is trying to screw you over, which makes him not much of a friend. Either way, it's NO DEAL unless you like getting rooked.
I actually had to read the post twice because my brain wanted to think that he was offering BOTH Taurus' for your gun and 200 rounds of ammo. That would be a more equitable trade given ammo prices these days.
Again, I'd politely decline his offer.

........'Ol P.T. Barnum would have loved to have heard about that supposed "deal". One of his favorite sayings was "There's a sucker born every minute..." That deal only works one way. And it's not in the right direction. Beware of the "friend"......

thanks to everyone who helped, i am going to keep my ruger. i offered to buy my friend some ammo for the 44's, shoot them a few shots and if i didn't trade let him have the rest of the ammo. but he said they were not to be shot cause he wanted to keep them clean for sale or trade. well i'm gonna keep my ruger, ain't afraid to dirty it up cause it cleans back up just like new.
