Why aren't they shooters? They have them brand new at Walley World for 600 bucks. How much would you have to spend to make it a decent shooter? What would you have to change? I really like the gun but I have heard, here and other forums, they don't shoot worth a darn.

I had a Mini 14 Ranch rifle and it shot pretty good with 60 gr bullets. I did trade it in on a Stag Arms AR though. But the Ruger never gave me any trouble.

Depends on your definition of "good". If they can shoot 2 1/2" groups at 100 yards I would be fairly happy for a pencil barreled dependable rugged rifle, pretty sure a coyote wouldn't know the difference...

But if you want 1/2" groups look to spend at least another $600...

Mini are just one of those guns that seem to get alot of crap. I dont know why, there pretty well made, and very reliable (mines thrown 1000rnds w/out a hicup). with a scope on it, mine will shoot 2" easy at 100 and I can put 20 holes in a paper plate, off hand at 50 w/ the peep sight, who could ask for more from a gun like that, that cost 500$ new?(not any more)

Ive had my ranch rifle for about 7 years and its the oldest gun in my safe , I really have little use for it, and I havent shot it in about a year, but for some reason ,I just cant part w/ it cause I know Im gonna need it someday for something. That said, if I was really into tactical/target shooting w/ a semiauto ,Id probably get an AR or a M1A.

The look on the guys faces at the range that have AR-15's will be PRICELESS

I just made an offer on a mini. I'll see what happens. If I get it, tiny groups won't matter. This will be my "If the chit hits the fan gun" LMAO!!

Edit-I say tiny groups won't matter but I want to be able to takeout people sized targets at a couple of hundred yards with open sights.
