RE: Heavy Barrel Accuracy - How Much Better?
my old heavy barrel in .223 shot like a lemon
but thats where the positives stop those barrels are heavy, and a chore to tote around, let alone shoot off hand as much as i loved it i sold it to much work for me while i was chasing yotes |
RE: Heavy Barrel Accuracy - How Much Better?
All other things being equal and by that I mean the barrel length, chamber, bore finish, bore consistancy, rifling, crown, etc... the heavier barrel will be more accurate than a lighter weight barrel.
Same thing applies to a shorter barrel as it does a heavy barrel. A short barrel of equal diameter will be more accuratethan a longer barrel of equal diameter. |

I have often heard that a shorter barrel(such as you described)is more accurate but why is this the case? |

Stiffer. Less "whip".

RE: Heavy Barrel Accuracy - How Much Better?
Exactly. The shorter you cut a barrel the stiffer that barrel becomes and the less it is effected by the harmonics of the bullet and gasses traveling through the bore.
Another effect of a short barrel being stifferis that you can get equal accuracy out of a short thin barrel as you can out of a longthick barrel. |
RE: Heavy Barrel Accuracy - How Much Better?
Is there going to be a noticeable difference in accuracy with the heavy barrel? |
