I'm trying to decide on a rifle for the majority of my deer and hog hunting.
The .270 Win. has always been good to me, and I've also had great luck with the 7mm. Rem. Mag.
So, in trying to decide between the two, several of you folks suggested the .270 WSM.
Here are my concerns...
1. Will the WSM's still be around a decade or two from now?
and...
2. I'm a lefty, so the only rifles I've found in .270 WSM are the Browning Medallion and Hunter left handed models.
Any experience with these rifles?

Yes, the 270 WSM will be around in 10 years and more. It appears to beastrong 2nd in popularity in the WSM line.
Is there a reason you don't like Browning's... I've always found them to be great rifles. Ruger normally has a good selection of lefties, but I don't know if theyhave a 270WSM for sale.

Yes the 270WSM will be around, the advantages are that it is a short action and gives approx 200 fps more over the 270 win. The disadvantages are higher ammo prices and more recoil. Does it do anything the 270 Win will do, no but it will do a little faster.

ActuallyI love Browning rifles.
I've just always went with stainless/synthetic and I'm a little leary about going with a wood stocked, blued barrel gun for hunting. I know they've worked for decades....but I worry about the effects of rain and such.
If anyone has a "pet load" or favorite factory load for the .270 WSM I would really like to know about it also

I own a lefty Remington BDL in .270wsm and love it. The barrel was rechambered from an original .270. Browning is not the only maker of left handed rifles in the wsm calibers. Try Ruger and Savage. I have looked at them also and almost bought a Savage.
I use Winchester SupremeĀ® Ballistic SilvertipĀ® Rifle Ammunition in 130 grain. I have only had one deer move after the first shot and actually harvested two deer with one shot with this rifle/bullet combo.

270 wsm has a decent shot of sticking around, I dont see a practical advantage over the 270 win, especially when you factor in ammo prices.
So 270 wsm if you reload, 270 win if you dont.

I recommend the good old 270-winchester. I almost bought a 270-wsm, I just did not see any real advantage in the 270-wsm over the 270-win. No deer on planet earth will know the difference either. The factory ammo price is also another goodreason to pick the 270-winchester over the 270-wsm.
Good luck hunting

Get a 270 Winchester. if the 270 wsm will be around in 10 years and it will be, then the 270 will be around forever. Anything the WSM can do the Winchester can do just as good. Yea yea i know the WSM shoots flatter. big deal. at all practical shooting distances, like out to 400 yards and under, there isnt a lick of difference. and if you dont reload, then finding ammo for a wsm could pose a problem. the chances of a store having 270 winchester ammo in compared to 270 wsm is greatly in the 270 winchesters favor. that being said i would like to own a 270 wsm someday, because i am a huge fan of any 270 cartridge.
