kansaswiderack,

Out here in the western part of Kansas 250-300 yd shots are not uncommon. I have my 270 sighted in at 2.5" high @ 100 yds and am right on at 250 and still in the kill zone at 300 yds. I use 130 gr Winchester Powerpoints, about as inexpensive as you can get, and haven't had any trouble knocking down a muley. I say stay with what you know. Your loads will be fine.Good luck with your hunt. I have seen some monsters in Eastern Colorado.

Let me add one more thing...Charts are fine, they put you in the ballpark, but you still need to shoot your gun to verify...I know with my .243 where to hold for 100gr Corelokts, but 100gr Hornadys, sighted in the same drop 4-5 inches more at 300, go figure...

Kansas if you are looking for a higher performance load for your 270 you may want to give the Hornady Light Mag 130 grain interbond a shot. Pun Intended. The claimed velocity is 3215 and the interbond has a .460 BC and great terminal performance. The core lokt of a course will do a find job also.

I have to agree with Hawkeye. Look at the ballistics charts all you want but you have to punch holes in paper to see where you're at for sure.

Can anyone tell me the trajectory on a .270/130 grain bullet? Looking @ sighting in one inch high @ 100 & curious about down range point of impact say out to 300.
If you raise the POI to +3" @ 100, it will be + 3" @ 200, and dead on at +- 275 and -5" or so at 300 yards........Buyt yes, you do have to fire your own rifle at these ranges to be sure where it hits. If +3" @ 200, You can hold dead on out to 325 or so. But you'd be surprised how many mulies are taken at 100 or less in CO...........

excellent the 270 win with 130gr bullets........great deer rifle.......works good on Elk and Caribou too!

I like the 3" high rule @ 100 yards!
