I had a Interarms Mark X in 30-06 rebarrelled into a 338-06 many years ago.Thankfully Iknew thesmithwho did mine , so I only had to pay the actual cost of the barrel. All the labor was free expcept for a grilled steak and a few beers:)

Today, despite the fact that my safe is full of rifles the two big games rifles that see the most use are my 280 and 338-06.

ORIGINAL: Wolf killer

I have an old Parker Hale chambered in 270-winchester & a Ruger M-77 chambered in in 25-06.
I am thinking about taking one of them into a gunsmith and get it rechambered into a 338-06?

Any idea on how much this would cost?
You could not have made a better choice. The .338/'06 is superb! You could get it rebored to .338" caliber then rechamber it. The present chamber would clean up pretty well.

Another choice would be the .338 Gibbs, a "super" improved '06 case. Since you are a reloader, this would work out well for you. The Gibbs round gives near .338 Win. performance from '06 brass.

Sound like fun. Good luck, Tom.

Expect to pay somewhere near $500.00 give or take to have your gun re-barrled. I'm currently having a new gun re-barrledand hope to haveit back ina week or two. Four to six weeks seems to be the norm for a re-barrel job at most places.

I think your only concern's with boring out vs re-barrel might be accuracy loss/barrel life.Thin barrels whip more which is not good for accuracy. It would also heat up a lot quicker so you would have to allow extra time for it to cool or risk shooting out the barrel sooner as well.I know a lot of folks go that way but I seriously doubt they end up with a gun that shoots as well as they'd like.
