This past summer i purchased a Zeiss Conquest and put it on my 300wsm andi absolutely love it. You should definately look into them.I'm not sure what a 12 power would run but i found mine in 3x9x40 for $419.99 and its really all i need for the shots i take. One of the clearest scopes i've used.

Ther are a lot of choices that are in your price range. Burris, Leupold, Nikon are just a few. My favorite scope in that range is a Nikon Monarch, well worth the money.

I would also HIGHLY recommend Sightron Big Sky scopes. For the $ they are very good.

Check out the Vortex Viper 4-12X40PA from www.Libertyoptics.com. Great glass and the price is right when u talk to Scott at liberty.Should be able to pick it up for under $450.00 shipped to your door.
