Baikal/Remington double rifle in 45/70
i finally took it out and shot it today after2 weeks of bitter weather,of all the story's i have read the last 5 years trying to come across one of these,i was VERY surprised at what i got.the wood was much better then i thought,i heard story about the barrels are not regulated,i shot 2 quick shots to get the feel of it,then took a free standing 2 shots at 70 yds, then 2 more with a box of Remington 405gr sp.the last 4 were in a 2x3 inch box thats what i would consider very good even for doubles that cost 5 to 10 times as much.it has a jack screw adjustment for changing left or right slightly.but i will not use it.im not sure what the problem was with them, but what ever it was it must be fixed.im very happy with this rifle, glad i did not go by some of the exposure this rifle had the last few years.i now have a double rifle to ad to collection ,and i did not have to sell my truck LOL.obviously its not as nice as a holland and holland or a merkel, but it also was under $1000

sorry about that,i thought i already posted pics of it..here you go,i switched the upper forearm with one from my
coach gun,i just thought the one it came with was a little to small for me.also i put it next to my 450 marlin for size comparison http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee201/snuffynra/Picture1-1.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee201/snuffynra/Picture3.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee201/snuffynra/GEDC0772.jpg http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...a/Picture2.jpg |
RE: Baikal/Remington double rifle in 45/70
It looks like all you need is a little sight adjustment to the right and you're all set. I had one in my hands a couple months ago and almost got it. But I didn't buy it because of the low pressure loads it could only shoot. They are nice rifles and balance well in the hands. My cousin has both the 45-70 and the 30-06. He likes them.

i dont reload so i just buy standard 45/70 loads over the counter at my local gander mt,they dont have any buffalo bore or Garretts there anyways,

Wow, that gun has some phenomenal wood in it! That is one very good looking gun. I really like it. I didnt realize those guns had double triggers. That is also really appealing in a double gun. Great gun!

RE: Baikal/Remington double rifle in 45/70
Not a bad looking rifle, actually! I'd settle for the 405-grain factory ballistics withthat rifle.......

RE: Baikal/Remington double rifle in 45/70
I'm not suprised you got good results. I've had a Baikal O/U for two years and despite what I've heard it keeps up just fine with the bereta and citoris and red labels that belong to people I shoot with. I'm actually looking at their semi auto. Was the double rifle special order? Didn't know they made em. I'm considering getting a 45/70 in afew years and would like more info. Nice rifle man.

RE: Baikal/Remington double rifle in 45/70
well they,EAA,REMINGTON,AND BAIKAL have been talking about importing them into the us for about 5 years that i know of.a few came here but mainly for shows .a handful of dealers got some and many that i read about said they had one or used one,and most of the comments were not good.but i kept trying to get one,and reading more on them,it seemed everyone that could produce a picture of one, that did not come from a web site liked them, and i started to think who really had one or were they just posting what they read.i finally found one a little after christmas at guns america.i bought it but did not have hi hopes for it.figured you pay $900 for a double rifle what do you expect...well i was wrong on all accounts.its not quite as pretty as most doubles, and not as big as most double.but it shoots as good as most doubles and its at least $5000 cheaper.the only thing i hear now is low pressure stuff,it will handle standard 45/70 loads,if you are hunting something that you cant kill with the regular 405 gr ammo you buy at any gun store, then you are using the wrong gun anyways.(because you would be in africa for the big 5)also cabelas has one called the kodiak or something like that ,it too is standard 45/70 ammo only.but its $3500.so i have learned once again in life beleive nothing that you hear, and only half of what you see.LOL

RE: Baikal/Remington double rifle in 45/70
Remington announced this rifle quite a few years before they could get them in stock to sell in the U.S. Glad to see they finally got some to sell. The factory .45/70 load consisting of the 405 grain bullet at around 1300 FPS MV is plenty powerful enough for use up to 100 yards or maybe a bit more.

RE: Baikal/Remington double rifle in 45/70
and the 300gr remingtons at 1800 are even better.
