RE: Just what we need another new 30 caliber.
It seems like if you can nearly match the ballistics of a .308 why not just use a .308. I mean i guess it is a lighter more compact platform but I'm sure the difference is pretty much negligible.

Gotta sell more guns, I guess. Take the proven success of the AR, and combine it with America's favorite caliber. Sounds like a marketing guy's dream.
Not mine, though. |
RE: Just what we need another new 30 caliber.
Uh, duh, it's already been done about 45 years ago, it's called the AR10

RE: Just what we need another new 30 caliber.
I think the point here was 308 Win performance without the extra weight of the AR-10

Never really understood why people fuss over companies creating these rounds that basically, mimick current "standard" rounds. It is of no loss to me financially so I could care less. Maybe someone will sell their prized .308 and I can get a good deal on it used!!:D

I've never understood thenew caliber craze like the remington ultras, Winchester Short Mags, Marlin's new leverevolution calibers like the .308 Marlin, Thompsons .30 TC, the list goes on and on.... I'd rather see companies put more resources in the quality of their products and good customer service, then blow it on marketing gimmicks. I think Remington (and others) would be better suited to apply the old 80/20 principle, and make better quality, tried and true guns like the 700,1100, 11-87and 870 in the most popular calibers. How manyRemington guns over the last few years are already gone -- the 798, 799, Cheap Spartanguns, andI think we'll add the new"887 Wanna-be Benelli Nova" Pump gun to the list within a yearor two. The Ultra magsare incredibly inefficientrounds that do nothing but beat youup andburn up barrels. I'll stay with the .270, '06, .30-30, and.243 standard calibers all day. Just my opinion -- maybe I'm just a Jack O'Connor type of person....

I thought the 6.8 Rem SPC was supposed to be the cat's meow on the AR-15 platform as as a step up in terminal ballistics. Where is it now? I dont know anything about the .30ARbut I wonder if it's based on the old .30 Remington/6.8 spccase which I am sure they are still tooled up for?
