Default Ball park price on Ruger

My mom recived a pistol from the estate of a long time friend and she asked me what is was worth and I have no idea so I'm asking you.
I looked at the gun and it looks in good shape, the only flaw is it has been kept in a holster for many years and the end of the barrel is shiney for the first inch or so.
The gun reads on the barrel (Sturm.Ruger&Co Southport Conn.USA)
on one side of the frame and(Ruger Super Black Hawk .44 Magnum Cal)
the other side of the frame (12869)

Sheis not looking to sell but would like some idea of the guns worth for insurance.
Thank You for your input.

Google "Sturn Ruger" that site will give you the new price and a good place to start.

Ehhh, wrong answer! Seeing that the number given from the frame, 12869, would be a non-prefix serial number dating this specimin to 1958. Hardly able to get a value from current production model info. As to it's value...much more info would be needed. 1) these Old Models are they're referred to now were offered a factory conversion to add a levl of safety for those ignornat enough to not understand the basic principlas of it's design and operation. If it's had the conversion, value is detracted. 2) the bbl length and top strap (horizontal frame area above the cylinder) also makes a big difference in it's value.

Best bet is to get a picture or two or three and ask this question over on RugerForum.com. You'll get more than you need to know and a darn good assessment of it's value from the Ruger folks there.
