Get the SPS and get some work done to it with the other $400.

The SPS. Unless you're the kind of owner that never cleans and oils your gun while living in the remote wilderness with no shelter I fail to see the need to shell out $400.00 more for the XCR either. [8D]

I have the SPS stainless. The XCR has a little better stock...but for 400 you could get a nice quality stock for the Stainless setup.

My 270 SPSshoots awesome.

I believe that they are, for all practical purposes, the same game. so for me, it would boil down to the cheapest gun that i could get my hands on. any remington will usually shoot good and just be a good, solid gun, so if it were me id just get the cheapest gun.

I bought the 700xcr a couple years ago and I am very happy with it. When I made the decision between the two I wanted to hunt around salt water like Alaska. It is something that the individual has to make that decision. I was happy with the one I made.

I have hunted near salt water with regular stainless rifles with no issues.I would buy the sps stainless, and use the extra money on a mcmillan stock.
