Building my own gun

Building my own gun
Ok I am going to attend Colorado School of Trades beginning in June. One of the things that you work on is building your own rifle.
I know that I am going to get alot of oppinions on this one, but if you guys were going to build your own rifle and could choose any caliber that you wanted what caliber would it be. This would be a big game rifle (mulies, elk, moose). I will probably keep it commercially loaded and don' t really want the old stand by' s like the 30-06 or 300 win mag, something a little more " exotic" . Kind of thinking 338 WSM if they are being made at that time, 338-06, 35 Whelen.

Quilly, take another look at that 400 Whelan. Rebated rim + no shoulder = headspace problems. Find a rimmed case though and problem solved. I do like the idea though of the 400.

How about an old standby- .458 win magnum on a mauser 98 action?
I think it would be cool to own a rifle in 7x64 Brenneke also. Though not too common, the ammo can still be found in a few sporting goods stores.
