I didnt say i was all that displeased...the 06I shoot is devistating with 180gr core-lokts....YesI did harvest both deer....Personally i wont hunt with the core-lokt bullets anymore with my 270just for piece of mind...I really cant see owning an expensive rifle...expensive scope...then trying to shoot the cheapest bulletsI can buy through them...When it comes time to take a shot you only need 1 bullet....so what difference does it make if it costs 50 cents or a dollar fifty? If i had the stuff i would reload everything and not get involved with a factoryammo discussion, but im limited in my rifle hunting and just try to buy better factory ammo even if it is more expensive.
Yes core-lokt bullets do kill thousands of animals each year and do shoot great in alot of rifles....I just wont use em for hunting anymore....my 270 finds 1" groups at 100 with the Hornaday SP 130 and the Federal Fusion 130 and both are just lights out on whitetail.

Can you honestly say that every deer you have shot, you've hit perfectly??? Never got nervous and pulled a shot a little more than you would have liked?...
Thats the only deer i have had that happen with, and it was the 1st deerI took aim on with my 270.
I really dont care if you want to make statements and defend $8 a box bullets...The guy asked for an opinion, i gave him mine...

I'll add that the one doe that I did shoot with a core-lokt, the little 100 grain 6mm pill entered as tight behind the shoulder as physically possible and she dropped. problem is, it didn't exit, and the hole looked like a scalpel incision about a quarter of an in wide. I looked at her, and flipped her over, couldn't find it. Seemed like a textbook heart/lung shot with the blood dripping from her nose, then I flipped her over again and put pressure on her chest and was squirted in the face with blood. 2 ribs were destroyed and the vitals were jelly. Seems like a good thing I made a perfect shot, if she had run I doubt I'd have found much of anything.

When the SST first came out it had a pretty thin jacket that caused severe fragmentation. Since then Hornady has improved it and added some thickness to the jacket. At 100-200 yard ranges with a polymer tipped bullet you have to expect to lose weight retention as that wedge is drove back into the lead core. They work fine like most bullets properly placed.
Core-Lokt's are a pretty stable bullet but I have personally seen them shed the lead core. With most bullets high velocity and close ranges bullets will open up more than expected. I've also seen core lokt's pass through animals at close ranges too. And as we all know if the bullet is passing through an animal it's not fragmenting too much.
I like the Core Lokt it has preformed well in my opinion in most cases. I also like the SST for a higher BC. Choose an Accubond and get the best of both worlds. I'll stick with my Speer's.

LOL Only in America would we complain about the ammo's performance with 2 shots and 2 dead deer.
What did hunters 150 years ago complain about when the only bullet available was patched round ball?
