I saw a 9mm rifle today. What do you use one for? doesn' t look big enough for deer, and I don' t think it has very good range for coyotes. I guess it more of a target kind of gun?

I wouldn' t think it would be a good self defence gun. 9mm is better than a sharp stick, but not by much. It' s better than nothing.
Possibly it would make a great javalina gun?

Well in today' s Political Correct world some Police Departments Admin types don' t want their officers to carry a RIFLE. Ohhhhh such a dirty word [&:] So to get some extra yardage on a pistol a 9mm or .40S&W carbine with a 16" barrel vs. a 4" barrel can be let' s say, better but not best? Also for smaller officers who have complained of stiff recoil from 12guages.
Also would make a pretty good home defense carbine if you needed such a thing [&:]
The 9mm isn' t too bad, especially if you are using +P' s or +P+' s. Actually it' s pretty darn good. Not to get into a good ol' 9mm vs. 45acp debate (heck I' m a .45 fan darn it) but I don' t care to get shot center mass with a 9mm short much less a 9mm +P+ out of a 16" barrel

Ok, it' s like a really long sharp stick.
All I' m stating is what I' ve seen in my personal experience. My buddy (a non-hunter) and I were driving along one day last year and he hit a deer. Just a little doe. It only broke both of it' s back legs so it was still alive but couldn' t get up. So he told me to finish it off and handed me his 9mm pistol he kept under his seat for self protection. I got out and shot the doe in the brain. It didn' t even phase it. All it did was make the thing kick around harder. So I shot it again. And again behind the shoulder. It just kept living. After the one behind the shoulder it slowed it down but it was still very much alive. I had to slit it' s throught to end it. I never asked what kind of ammo he had in that thing. Even with FMJ ammo the first shot in the brain should have ended that.
That is why I will never see a 9mm as much better than a sharp stick. I' d rather have one than nothing, but if I had any kind of a choice I' d pick something with more knockdown power.

Sounds like a fish story to me. But at any rate there is nothing wrong with the 9mm especially if you use good ammo and make good shots. If it was so bad don' t you think most of the worlds police and military would use something else? I am not saying it is the best cartridge, but it is a whole lot better than a sharp stick.
