When you say pistol,I assume you are talking about a semiauto. Are you wanting a semiauto or a revolver? Also what kind of shooting do you want to do and what game will you be hunting while carrying this pistol? Give us a little more info so we have more to work with enabling us to assist you better with your choice.

Maybe something in 10mm? For bear your going to need one of the more powerfull chamberings. Only trouble with that is a lot of the guns that chamber the more powerfull rounds are on the large side and not all that easy to use as a carry gun.

I've got a Glock 22 (.40 Caliber) and love it. I'm not sure this is a good bear hunting pistol if you plan to use it specifically for that.

I'm partial to the Springfield XD Line of pistols.

I'm not sure I would want to bear hunt with one too badly.....

I'd get a revolver for that duty.

I love my Springfield XD40. Black Bear are smaller normally and a 40 or 45 will be plenty for protection from one. I really like the 40 round but its mroe up to which you like better.

I say check out the Ruger SR9 however I'm not sure I'd ever want to carry a 9mm for black bear. It would be good for target shooting though.

I'm also a fan of Rugers P90 .45. My uncle has one and it's one of my favorite hand guns I've shot. Not sure why but I'm a Ruger fan when it comes to hand guns. I've liked all of them I've shot.
