RE: Going to buy a new 22 rifle....
If you can afford it get the T/C .22 if not get the Ruger10/22. If you'd consider a bolt action I can recommend the CZ Varmint .22. Just got one and I love it! Shoots up with the 40X .22 I used to own!!

I have a CZ452 in a 22 magnum; it looks good, fits good and shoots great. I have never been sorry that I have bought it. Check them out, I think you will be happy.

RE: Going to buy a new 22 rifle....
I've got a ruger 10/22 that stays in the gun safe all the time since I got my savage MKII LV about a month ago. The savage is a bolt action with a heavy barrel and is much, much more accurate than the 10/22. It's much more fun to shoot an accurate .22.

RE: Going to buy a new 22 rifle....
My ruger 10/22 is my favorite fun gun.
The trigger was a bit stiff out of the box, but after tossing a gunsmith $50 to have the hammer and sear polished and an over-travel adjustment screw added, it was smoother than a baby's but, just not as messy. It's so smooth now that it's not even a challenge to keep 10 rapid-fire shots on a bussiness card at 75 feet. That ought to fix your squirrel's wagon! For a little more money than I spent, you can get a whole new target-grade trigger group from manufacturers like Volquartzen. I alternate the optics I use on it. I have a 3X9 Simmons variable that is adequate for medium distance shooting, and a Tasco ProPoint 5 that SO cool for plinking and short-range hunting. The Ruger 10/22, like others have said, has an amazing array of after market parts to choose from. I like the pistol grip stock, and the Bull barrel even though I own neither. Good luck. Keep 'em all in the Bull. |
RE: Going to buy a new 22 rifle....
I would rule out the Remington 597.The Ruger's are great rifles. Depending if you want a semi auto or bolt action. The CZ's are really nice.Really nice price on them also.Dollar for dollar the Ruger's are the best buy in my opinion.Ruger Redhawk
