I went to a gun-shop that was having a sale today. They had the Savage black-stock/blue barrel 17HMR for $154. They also had the Savage stainless with a beautiful stock and bull barrel for $259. I was going to get the latter, until the guy told me that he can' t keep shells in for them, and neither can anybody else.

I called a couple other places, and was pretty much laughed at when I asked for 17 shells.

I' m going to get one if they can start producing them at a little better rate.

I think they are producing them as fast as they can. They are selling out faster than they can make em. As soon as CCI and Remington get there productions up to speed you' ll see alot more of em.

MATTHEWS, if you cant find any on gunbroker.com, see if there are any on auctionarms.com

Hornaday .17MR labels (among numerous others) are printed in Oregon. Standing order for 100,000 .17 labels a month. How do I know this? Take it to the bank: the pressman is married to my youngest daughter. That' s 50 X 100,000 -- or 5 million .17 rounds every 30 days -- assuming Hornaday is actually maintaining that level of production. Same presses are now printing CCI' s new .17MR 50-round box labels as well; monthly runs vary from 50,000 to 100,000. No, I don' t have an inside track to any of this ammo, so don' t call.

Suspicions abound. My own take is that no such ammo really exists. Hornaday is simply wallpapering every outhouse in Nebraska with these decorative red labels as a good-will gesture, free of charge. To keep snow from drifting thru the knot holes and thereby raising the standard of living. Hey! -- you got a better explanation?

Zeak...I' m torn between the availability of the 22WMR, and the range of the 17HMR. The 17 shoots twice as flat as the 22mag...but costs more.

What to do...What to do...LOL

Im already seeing the cci .17 hmr here in Tahlequah,Oklahoma. I noticed them yesterday when picking up a featherweight 270 wsm. They are running $10.50 a box. The gun store i visit sells the ammo fast as he recieves it, its best to buy a few boxes. Mathews, i have the same exact gun, you will love it. The trigger is a bit heavy and needs lightened on mine but it still shoots great. I just need to get a descent scope on it. Currently it has a cheapo powerline scope i got for about $30.00 at wal-mart. Ive read ont he marlin forumns where several people use a bkl mounting system and bushnell banner 50mm scopes. u can find the forumns ont he marlin page under marlin talk. Im not sure what ive been paying for the hornady brand as ive only bought ammo once sense having the gun (got a few boxes) and the price was totaled in and i didnt keep the recipt.
