H&R Ultra Slug Gun; 12 ga. vs. 20 ga.
After living and hunting in Wisconsin for a number of years where I hunted deer with a Sig SHR in .270 Winchester, I have moved to Michigan and will hunt in a shotgun only area.
I have started looking at slug guns after finding out that a slug barrel for my Benelli Nova would cost more than a new gun. At first I was looking for a pump slug gun by either Mossberg or Remington as an affordable set-up. However, the other day a gun clerk told me that I should get a single shot H&R slug gun instead. He stated that the accuracy afforded by it far surpassed that of pump guns. Furthermore, he said that I should get a 20 gauge rather than a 12 gauge because the trajectory of the slug was much flatter.
I'm a big believer in maximizing your first shot and I value bullet placement over caliber size, but I had never thought of buying a single shot firearm nor a 20 gauge. Thinking it through, it makes sense.
Is this guy right? Is the H&R slug gun much more accurate than other type of guns? Is a 20 gauge a better set-up for a dedicated slug gun than a 12 gauge? Your thoughts are appreciated.

Here is a link to a thread started a few days ago on the very topic.

Well that thread is really more about the experience of someone who has a rifle rebarreled by H&R for slug barrel and being very dissatisfied.
We have a 12 and a 20 here. I started out with a 12 right when the 12s came out and love it. Very, very accurate and definately fills the needs of my typical hunts. Then we went with a 20 about 6 years ago. The 20 is a bit more accurate.
Either way you won't be disappointed with the accuracy for the slug shooters.

My H&R Ultra Slug in 20 ga and Hornady SST slugs are the most accurate slug gun I have ever owned/shot. And its a pleasure to shoot, but get a sling for it cause it can get heavy.

The 20ga sabot from a rifled barrel does have a flatter trajectory than a 12. And, despite the much smaller slug (bullet) weight, it packs more energy outside about 100yds than a 12ga foster slug from a smoothbore.
