700 mountain rifle or a-bolt hunter?
 

As you cand see im trying to pick out a rifle. Ive decided on the 30-06 cartridge, but can decide between the 700 mr or the abolt. I really dont have any big bore rifle expirience (minus my 30-30). Obviously guns have personalitys, but generaly which is more accurate?

Both the rifles mentioned are accurate ,as to which is more accurate nobody can honestly say .Each rifle shoots different even if by the same manufacturer . It would really be simple if one company could say we are the most accurate . Then everone would just buy the same gun . I don't see that happening . Myself I like the mountain rifle because of the finish .

I would go with the Remington 700. Just personal preferance, I guess.

I'd be surprised if either rifle could not group loads it liked into an 3/4"-1" at 100 yards...it'd probably take a comparison of 100 rifles of each model, fired by experts over the course of 2 weeks, to clearly discern an accuracy winner, and even then the results would probably be .78" compared to .82", etc...

Good luck whichever way ya decide to go....

One advantage the Browning has is the availability of the BOSS, with suitable hearing protection of course...(I've fired a BOSS equipped .300 WinMag that felt no different than my Boss-less .270 Win from a bench...) You might also still see a few 2000-era (still new) BOSS equipped Model 70's in the stores.

Halcon, when you say the finihs..ive never seen a mnt rifle up close...I was thinking of the lss 700 mtn rifle, i like the way it looks. But if we were comparing apples to apples (both blued) the browning would have a higher luster, correct? thanks

I would go with the 700 as I prefer the remington trigger,magazine and safety.For some reason the felt recoil also seems to be less with the remington stock.

Im in camp Remington.Stubblejumper has it right those stocks seem to reduce recoil by about 20lbs.

I have the rem.mtn in 30/06 and it is a very good shooter,I used the 150 gr SST's this year.I usually take a different rifle every time I go.just like to change.But my ruger 260 is my favorite.Got the limit(6) this year,took 2 with my 260 and the other 4 with a different cal,for each deer.The rem mtn rifle took one.

The Remington has a better trigger on it and is adjustable. The Browning is not. The Remington bolt has one of the strongest receivers and the best locking system of most modern day rifles. Except for the custom made receivers, Remingtons are used to make more competition rifles than any other brand. I think mostly due to the good stiff receiver, adaptability of the parts, etc. Like what was said earlier, the safety, magazine and other parts are superior also.
