It already is. Like RR suggested, experiment with different ammo until you find what shoots best. Additionally, if it were me, I'd junk the BSA and get a better scope.

I might change out the scope. http://www.swfa.com/pc-6833-224-nikon-3-9x50-prostaff-riflescope.aspx
And I like the 87 gr V-MAX from Hornady. 44-46 gr of Varget.

Pick up a box of Federal Premium 85gr HPBT Sierra GameKings, at 3320 fps you can sight in 2 1/2 to 3 inches high at 100 yards and you will be
2 1/2 to 3 inches low at 300...I've tried them in 4 different 700s and they all grouped them very well...I've killed 35 or so deer with that bullet...

I have shot a lot of prairie dogs with 70 grain ballistic tips and also used Speer 70 grain TNTs out to and past 300 yards.
You might want to shoot a slightly larger bullet but the 70 grain bullets get to the target quite quickly.
With a bit of practice you can extend that 70 grain loads to 400 yards too.....

300 yards is just warming the 243 up..... I shoot a TON of 243 rounds each year. For varmints I use 60gr Sierra HPs, or Hornady 75gr HPs. For deer I use 95gr Combined Technology BTs.
