AR for hunting.

When i was in KY a few years ago all i had for hunting was my AR.
I ran into some other hunters and one guy gave me a riping for using it for deer.
He had a semi auto rifle i think a 3006 or 308 not sure what gun.
I asked why it was OK for him to use it and me not to use the AR.
His answer was this gun will not shoot 30 rounds with out reloading.
In KY a gun must be 10 shots or less.
i said this is a 10 round mag.

Then he said well how quick can you reload.
My thought was about as quick as you can.
but i choose not to argue with him since we both had guns in our hands and i did not want a shoot out with a hillbilly. Though i think i had the advantage.

What do you think about a AR for hunting.

An AR-10 in 308 would be pretty good for the appropriate game.

A well placed shot is a well placed shot no matter what cal you use(to a point anyways)...Mn just changed its law that you can now use a 22-250 or a 223 cal for deer and I dont see any differance Elk hunting with a 270 and deer huntin with a 223,being size of game and size of cal......300 or a 7mm to me is over kill for deer but fine for,,say,,moose or elk...bla bla bla;)

Other than asthetics there is no difference in using an AR or Browning BAR. They are both gas operated semi automatic rifles.

I have my eyes set on getting myself an AR15in the near futurein a heavy bbl 223 and likely an upper in 458 Bushmaster. I also like the sound of having an AR10 chambered in something like 338 Federal and 260 Remington. And Remington (Bushmaster) is chambering their R25 rifle in 7mm-08 and dipping it in full MO treestand camo.

Ilike to argue with ingorant / arogant people like that but sometimes it is better to just walk away. They are usually their own(and other gun owners)worst enemy. Remember the Jim Zumbo fiasco last year?

So he was telling you that he can only miss 5 times before reloading? :D

I wouldn't get too upset about it, there are a lot of inbred goobers out in the woods whose opinions you can pretty much ignore.

I don't see any problems hunting with an AR. That guys argument must have been emotionally driven, because logically there is no reason to not hunt with one.

sounds like a goodole fashion case of envy. "My Dick is bigger than yours..." That what he was trying to say. He was a little intimidated afer seeing your AR15...

I use the AR platform because it is versatile. Not only for hunting but I enjoy tactical3-gunand other related events so the more I can familiarize with the platform the better. There's a saying "be more afraid of the guy who has only 1 gun, he'll know how to use it"

You can build an AR to be equaly if not more accurate thanmany bolt action rifles, most people aren't aware of this. Some shoot sub MOA off the shelf even.

As far as hunting, all I would everwant is an AR15 for varmit and an AR10 for big game. For now, A long range anda short range AR15 works wonders on desert trips. Precision pulls on the prairie dogs with the scopeandyou can take a pack of coyote on the run with the HWS. Can't wait to get an AR10 though. I wish they weren'tso spendy!

Long Range .223

Short/Mid Range .223

There some really accurate setups in DI out right now. Charles Daily makes some good ones, Les Bauer has some Sub MOA setups. Noveske or Larue setup is probably arguabley the best. look into LWRC or POF for optimal gas piston rifles
