Default .243 QUESTION

Is a .243 a good rifle for hog and deer hunting? Or is it too small?

I've never killed a hog with mine, but I have killed over 150 deer and six black bears with it...

Guess it will do...

You'll hearmixed opinions, here's mine: For deer sized game, even hogs, the .243 is a great minimum caliber! Notice the key words great minimum! Not, "it will barely work and then only if I hit 'em between the eyes!"
There is not a whitetail on Earth that could tell the difference between a .243 and an '06 with good bullets and good shooting out to about 250-300 yards! Which, unless you arehunting right-of-ways or fields, is about as far as most shots will usually be!

x2 not saying i would do it but elk have been taken with a .243. a .243 will bring down the largest whitetail with no problem.

IMO and experiences with the .243...........the 100gr Sierra Game Kings were my choice and sufficient to do the job.

With 2 brothers, I have been told that since I bought it in 1980!!!

Also been told how much of a "softy"I was as well...

Funny how I always end up tracking others deer though...I've told them if they quit flinching they might hit where they were aiming...

One thing a lot of folks seem to forget is that deer ain't bullet proof and theydo die easy....

A 6mm slug is more than plenty 'nuff...............
