I have several 336's in various calibers. They are very good shooting guns probably some of the best in my safe. They would be ideal for your situation. BTW Don't pass up a 35 Rem either...:D

Yeah, I like the 35 Rem, ElkNutz. It's a cool rifle to be sure.

I just got a 336C in 30-30. And I love it. Seriously. It is one heck of a gun.

The Marlin lever actions have been a classic for decades. I have an older 336C in 30-30 Win. and a newer Marlin Guide in 444 Marlin. The 336 in 30-30 is a fine choice for 100-150 yards. As far as scoping it ... if your eyes are as bad as mine, not a choice !!! Scope it with a quality compact scope ant it'll look and perform well.
