Weatherby .270
I was looking at buying a used Weatherby Mark V .270. It is in excellent shape and it has a Weatherby scopewith thegun. I estimate bothare about 20 years old.
How do I know which Mark V it is? How can you tell the difference between the Sporter or the Deluxe or the other ones? Value? What would you pay for the scope and gun and just the gun?
It has a Weatherby 3X9x40 scope with a wide field of view. Is that a good scope? Value? How does that compare with some of the newer optics out today in the $300 range?
I would be using it mainly for deer hunting but may use it for elk. Does it have a decent trajectory? Care to compare with the 7MM or 300WinMag?
Any thoughts appreciated. Thank you!

RE: Weatherby .270
Go to www.auctionarms.com www.gunsamerica.com www.gunbroker.com www.gunsinternational.com for price comparison and type/model.The Deluxe model is fancy wher the Sporter is not as fancy. Go to www.weatherby.com to compare the actions and models. The .270 Wby. Mag. is a powefull caliber, and I would use it on any animal in North America with exception to the great bears. Post a picture and I will do my best to identify the rifle. I don't remember looking through a Weatherby scope. Good luck.

RE: Weatherby .270
Tell us more about the rifle, wood stock? what condition, barrel etc...anything labeled on the gun/barrel etc...
Is it chambered for .270wby? or .270win?
The .257, .270, and 7mm Wby all use the same case, that may give you an idea of the performance. I believe the 7mm wby beats the 7mm Rem. Mag.
I think the .270WSM may hurt new .270wby sales, but is one of wby's more popular rounds.
Either way it'll be a good setup in either of those chamberings.
I'd probably pass on the scope, but I'd have to look at it.
Probably just buy a newer one of my preference.
