RE: Concealed Weapon-Revolver Or Semi
I carry my xd45 compact 4"usually but occasionally I'll carry the Ruger SP101 .357 with the 2 1/4 barrel and bobbed hammer in stainless. I have don hume holsters for my xd that I love. And a galco for the sp that I kind of despise. I need to order another don hume for it.

RE: Concealed Weapon-Revolver Or Semi
I voted for a revolver. While I can't conceal carry here in the "Peoples Republic of Illinois" I do have one (S&W 5 shot .38 snub) in my lock box by my bed. Reason?? well there are a few....
First, they're safe...you can throw a loaded modern day S&W (or most other modern revolvers)off a building and it won't fire, the firing pin is blocked until the trigger is pulled to the rear. Nothing is under spring tension waiting for the sear to disengage. Second, they are the easiest to use....no worrying about safeties, or cocking, etc... In most every situation that you find the need to use your weapon, you can bet it will be very stressful to say the least. Without proper training drilled time and time again, most will undoubtedly forget to take off the safety or cock the gun. A revolver's design is simple and above all works to your most basic instincts of how to shoot a gun.......point andpull the trigger. It's something most EVERYONE will do without having to think about it.....point andpull the trigger. If someone were to break into my house when I'm not home with the intent of causing harm to my family, when my wife grabs the gunI know for sure it will fire if she needs it to because all she needs to do is point and pull the trigger. I wouldn't feel as confident if my 1911 was in the lock box, too much for her to think about in what's sure to be an already highly stressful situation. If I leave it cocked and locked, she may forget to take off the safety or even accidentally shoot the gun. A revolver needs a very deliberate and steady pull of the trigger to fire. Last, they (revolvers) are simple and reliable, they don't jam, break, or fail to feed at the worst possible time. Again if you pull the trigger it will go "bang". Safe, Simple, Reliable......what more can be asked of a firearm for self protection? |
RE: Concealed Weapon-Revolver Or Semi
Hammerless .38 Simple, effective, concealable.
Although I really ought to carry a big old semi-auto because I can't shoot a handgun worth a flip.... not because it carries more ammunition, but because I could probably throw a 2-3 pound full framed .45 hard enough to at least give myself a good running start. |
RE: Concealed Weapon-Revolver Or Semi
I carry a XD 45 compact. I like the fact that it throws a fairly large bullet downrange, minimal recoil (my wifes 9mm kicks just as hard), no safetys to switch off, and quite a few in the magazine. Can't say I have ever had a misfire, malfunction, or unintentional jam. Although I do practice clearing jams by loading really light loads to make sure it stove pipes or something similar.
Semi's can't be all that unrealiable compared to revolvers.....if they were I don't think that practically every officer, and soldier would have a semi. |
RE: Concealed Weapon-Revolver Or Semi
I would prefer to tote a semi auto, but due to weight and ease of concealment, my current carry gun is a S&W 637.
