I pondered the same question and now I own 2 7-08's.

With the performance being equal..if you wanna be like everybody else..go with the 7mm-08...if you wanna be a little different than norm...go with the 260! It's a can't lose situation!

Got to say in my experience the 6.5 does better in a MORE powder round.6.5X55,.264 Win Mag.,.284 seems to work better for me in the .308 based round than the 6.5.Might not have hit on the magic formula yet..BTW .284 does best for me in the "long "rounds also.
