I have a springfield armory 1911 and love it. Springfield has a lifetime warranty and it is a well made gun. I dont have any knowledge of the Taurus, but I did buy a cheap Charles Daly 1911 brand new and the jun always jammed. Ended up trading it in on the Springfield.

ipsc - I really don't think dale directed his comment to you. But he has a point. How can a company like Taurus throw in all those neat little goodies that companies like Kimber and charge about 1/2 the price? I think what he meant is that some people think if you did't pay $1000 plus for a 1911 then you bought a piece of junk. And that just isn't so with the Taurus PT1911. True, there are a few that may not be just right, but that can be said for anything.
And for most of us, if we need more than 17 rounds of 45ACP, we could be in some serious trouble. Two 8 round mags should be more than enough provided tactical mag changes are used. But for you shooting competition, you can shave off a lot of time by cutting down on reloads.

Been very happy with my Springfield loaded. It is not top of the line, but I had a good gunsmith help me work over everything and have never had a hiccup.A large part of thecost difference is with tolerances and hand fitting of the individual parts. It is noticable and the more a 1911 is "tuned" the more reliable it is. If I were going to buy a gun that had to be shot "bone stock" for personal protection an inexpensive 1911 is not what I would get. Just my 2 cents.

No, not dircted at anyone, just saying that a good 1911 should not cost over $1000. I have kimbers and springfields and love them but Iam not carrying a $1200 pistol all the time or leaving it in my truck. I like the Taurus and think they are great guns. All brands can have a bad apple, Colt is making a lot of junk these days also:D

If it worth buying such a model, it's worth buying one that's VERY good. I've read quite a few folks having issues with the Kimbers and taurus...well they don't exactly have a steallar reputation right now either. Springfield seems to be the bread & butter line but were it me, I'd go Les Baer. Guess 'm a gun snob.
