RE: Good Deer/Antalope Gun
I'm picking up a .243 mainly for antelope.....probably a backup on a mule deer hunt, though may become my mule deer rifle.
I've used a .270 on antelope and the results were overkill, bullet's always blew right through them. I've heard the .25-06 billed as the perfect antelope rifle, though I'm thinking a .243 may be perfect. I think for that combo though, 25-06 or .270 would be about as ideal as they come, not overkill for either, nor undergunned either. But anything from .243 to .30-06 would do both fine. |
RE: Good Deer/Antalope Gun
My 7mm Rem Mag absolutely made a mess out of the last antelope I shot. 140gr Nosler AccuBond loaded to max velocity did a number on the goat. Thought there mighta been 2 pieces when I walked up to it.....
I'll be shooting my 243 or my 25WSSM this fall for goats. |
RE: Good Deer/Antalope Gun
I've usedthe243 win and 25-06 Rem both on them and either one work great .

RE: Good Deer/Antalope Gun
.25-06 people have been harvesting everything from yotes to elk with this caliber.
the .25-06 is my primary hunting rifle |
RE: Good Deer/Antalope Gun
ORIGINAL: okgobbler .243, 6mm rem, 25-06, .260, 6.5x55, 270, 280, 7mm-08. Never shot a lope, but any flat shooter from 85-140gr should work good. Practice and quality optics are probably more important than the caliber or cartridge |
RE: Good Deer/Antalope Gun
I would go with a .25-06 if it were me.
