Here is my choice!RSRH7.5in barrel.44mag for hunting i like my scope but if for bear protection open sights.

Just a suggestion, take it for what it's worth.... Get the Ruger GP-100 stainless in 357 4.5 inch. This weapon is awesome, the trigger pull on it is so smooth. It is perfect size for packing and will give you plenty of knock down power. Brand new stainless runs around $479. Just a suggestion for you to look into, but you won't be dissapointed.

Both are fine guns and do what you're looking for, but I'd probably go with the .44 since it has the edge for deer hunting as well as bear defence.

Go with the Ruger...If you get the Smith, you're gonna have to file the front sight off....

Thanks for the input. I ended up ordering a Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt with the 4 5/8" barrel this afternoon (decided I'd rather go with the 45 instead of the 44). Should be a fun gun. Hopefully it'll get here before this weekend.
