Looking at some of these older guns only raises 1 question for me. How did we get to the point of making such ugly guns now? The factories act like its a crime to use a nice piece of wood now. No more plastic for me...I have enough tupperware. Time to get back to walnut. I can remember going into a gunstore as a kid and it was walnut and blued as far down the rack as you could see. Now when you go into one all you see is black [:@][:'(]

I'm sure that synthetic is a lot less expensive...

I would be afraid to find out what the Old Sauers would cost to produce these days never mind what they would sell for. They are artwork pure and simple should have kept mine but I got sucked into the SS and synthetic craze as well.

Congrats DoctorDeath, you done good.

I bought a ColtSauer back in the late 70's. I was working at a gun shop at the time. All had beautiful wood.I had probably a dozen to choose from.I hand picked one and it was a 30-06.I put a Redfield scope 3x9Widefield, Redfieldbase and Jr/Sr engraved rings on it.This rifle is still unfired NIB.Years ago and I have no idea how it happened.I noticed a small spot where the bluing is missing. It was just under the scopes objective on top of the barrel.Believeme it about made me sick.I can't imagine anything getting on it and it's been a safe queen since day one.I've been considering looking for anengraver and have a small engraving done to cover this spot. It's really small and chances are nobody will ever see it. Just knowing it's there bugs the hell out of me.
I wishnow, I would have bought a couple of the Colt Sauer "Drillings"We has several of the Drillings at the shop back then.

RR your a wise man to have at least bought one ... I have a weakness for German hunting rifles ...I love my Browning FN Mauser made in 1967 ..and this Sauer will be a welcome addition ...however it will be used like a rifle is supposed to be ..it will be babied but it will be hunted with ...I have no use for a pistol or rifle that I can't use in the field ...Ill let you guy's know when it arrives :D

Great looking rifle DD.....alas, I've had a few of them come and go over the years....I wish I'd kept at least one.[&:] Good news is there's still time to get another. Great looking rifle (love the story behind it) I hope you nail a "biggin" with it!

Boy, ain't that the truth!

Most of my better firearms are old pieces, they just seem to be better built back then. There are exceptions of course, but it just seems that mechanized production has taken away fromsome of the "had crafted" allure the older guns had........Sign of the times.[&o]

DD, enjoy your new "old" gun I hope it gives you years of service.
