RE: Rifle ?

Between the two I would get the 270. Popular, mainstream rounds work best for novices. Ammo is easy to find and there is a wide selection to choose from. I would like to suggest that you talk to the people who invited you on the rifle hunt and setup target practice time with them. Since you are new to rifle hunting they will probably be your best source of tips and advise.

I keep telling myself that the 25-06 is gonna be my next caliber, but if I had to pick between the 2 as my first centerfire, it would have to be 270

I'm in the market for a rifle, I have only owned a .22 mag. rifle. Where I hunt we can only use shot gun, but I got invited to deer hunt the next county over this year and it is a rifle county. I like the Rugar Hawkeye, but I can't decide between a .25-06 or .270 win. I'M A NOVICE RIFLEMAN. I would like some suggestions on the matter.
With all that in mind, and since you arein theDinwiddie County area, source a quality bolt rifle in 7-08......and good optics.

The reasoning is obvious..........

For a first centerfire I would have to suggest the .270. Its popular and easy to get ammo for at any place or time of year.

PersonallyI like the 2506remas a varmit/antelope & deer choice. However can't argue with a 270 or 7mm 08 either. Ammo availability will have an edge to the 270win however the others here have good stock as well. Do some research in your area before you buy in this regard, it may help make up your mind.

In terms of which rifle shoulder a bunch in your budget range and then pick the one that feels and fits the best.

Best of luck and enjoy!!:D
