HEY 30-30 GUYS! . . . WHAT AMMO?
#1
Anybody used the new Federal Vital Shock ammo with the 170gr Nosler?
I'm gonna have to get me a box if it's worth a darn.
I'm a little leary beacause I've heard unfavorable things about the Federal Fusion ammo for 30-30.
I have tried the Hornady LEVERevolution and seem to be leaning towards liking it. But only 160gr.
Or how 'bout the Winchester Supreme Silvertip in 150 gr?

I purchased a 30-30 recently and I'm just in the experimental stage with ammunition (I don't handload). I know that lever actions can be fussy about what they are fed as far as accuracy is concerned. I'm really curious to see how my rifle shoots with LeverEvolution ammunition and Federal 125 grain hollow points. I want to find the most accurate factory for my rifle. If you want to see a whole lot of info and comments for 30-30s, go to marlinowners.com.

I don't understand the "but only 160gr" statement. I can't see 10 gr weight either way is going to make any significant difference in how the bullets will perform on game which is all that really matters anyway.

"Only 160 gr" that make no difference. I got the Leverevolution bullets when they first came out they shot like nothing I had ever shot from my 30-30. Believe me that 160gr will take down any deer. I killed 2 deer that first year one went 15 yards the other was DRT (my avatar). If they shoot good from your rifle your search is over.

Not long ago I did a field test between Federal, Winchester, Remington and Hornady. To make a long story short, the 30-30 I used was sighted in at 100 yards with Remington 150gr. At the end of the tests the Hornady "Leverevolution Ammo" shot 6" higher than the Reminton, Federal or Winchester. 5 shot groups were less than 3/4" with Hornady, 1 3/4" with Winchester. Federal was the worse at about 2". All shots were from a bench using a Caldwell lead sled with 3 bags of #7 shot. Since then I have tested the .44 mag LE ammo along with the 45-70 Hornady with about the same results. I know some rifles like different ammo, but I am totally impressed with this new LE ammo. This last deer season I dropped an 8pt. at 187 yards and he never moved. Wound channel went through both lungs.

The leverevolution. I have killed 4 deer in two years. One went 50 yards. The other three straight down. I use a Savage 219 single shot. I know it works in my gun. Just my experience. What ever shoots straight and hits them the way you want out of your weapon of choice is what you should use. Happy Hunting.
