favorite .22 and why

I still like the classic, Marlin model 60 .22 LR. I've had one since I was 14. It is super accurate and has never failed. I have passed it on down to my daughter - who outshot me with it at the range.
The only thing about the Marlin semi-autos is that you absolutely MUST keep them clean. I'm not saying just to run a patch through the bore, I mean, break it down and clean the action, the feed ramp, etc...

Single shot bolt action Springfield 22lr that was my grandparents.. I used to target shoot and hunt squirrels with it when I was young. Shooting 1 shot at a time was great practice for me and helped make me a better shooter today. I wouldn't trade that for anything else and now my young fellow will become a better shooter as well..

I like my new Weatherby Mark XXII... I haven't shot it yet, as I still need to scope it. Picked it up last week. She is a beauty. Test target put a 5 shot group into less than 1/2" (OVERALL) at 55 meters. Built on an Anschutz 64 action.
I have a Ruger 77/22 that I rebarreled with a Volquartsen barrel a few years ago. It shoots exceptionally well, though for walk about small game hunting, that big target barrel is a bit cumbersome.

i might just have to get a bolt/semi auto now and a bolt/semi later. i like both of them
it sounds like the ruger 10/22 or the marlin model 60 is the way to go for a semi
not to sure about the bolts though

My first 22 was a 10/22 and I still have it. I would recommend it to anyone, later when you get the funds you can do some inexpensive upgrades and have a shooter that will keep up with the big boys. Earlier this month I went to a annual turkey shoot my grandad puts on and their was 20-30 guys there with all kind of guns and the little 10/22 hung with the 3000.00 custom rifles, shooting a maximum 1" MOA @ 100yds. and that was counting for the occasional wind. They are good little guns for just under 200.00. I also have the Ruger 77/22 and it shoots good to about 50yds., I have actually been meaning to do a couple upgrdes to it to see if it will out perform the 10/22 at 100yds. I too have always been told the bolt action will be more accurate than a semi-auto. Guess I'll have to buy some upgrades to see, b/c it wont do it stock.
