Default Ruger Mini-14

Does anybody know where/why Ruger came up with this name for the Mini-14? Thanks.

Probably because they wanted to market it as a scaled-down M14 even though its not.

Quite simple, really! It is sort of a miniaturized version of the U.S. Rifle, Cal. 7.62X51mm, M14. Hence "Mini-14"! (I'm assuming you know what the M14 is???)

It was designed by James Mini. It was actually the 14th prototype and the version he finally sold to Ruger. Well it sounded good at the time I typed it The first two posters are correct of course.
