Tracer Fun
I just got my order of tracers for my 223 today. So this evening, we decided to go play with them a lil bit. I found out you could see 'em for over 1/2 mile, and they don't shoot the same as my 52gr HPs that I've been shooting.
Here are some action shots: I'm shooting jackrabbits in these pictures if you look close you can see them. None of them dropped on the spot. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() An old light pole on my property: ![]() An old grain auger on my property: ![]() |
RE: Tracer Fun
I dont know how true this is but i was told that you are only saposed to load a tracer round every 3 or 4 rounds. It was because the buring flame will heat the barrle up alot more quickly then a regular bullet and they foul the barel up alot more. I dont know how true this is and if you only shooting a shot every once and a whyle i dont see a problem.

RE: Tracer Fun
It might not be such a problem with 5.56mm, but tracers start fires! So watch out where they go. We used to spend quite a lot of time on the MG ranges putting out fires started by tracers!

RE: Tracer Fun
I just triedsome 64 gr tracers in my AR as well.Military friend said they will burn for approximately900 meters. Sounds like your right on track. 800M=1/2 mile.
|
RE: Tracer Fun
I was told that about a 5.56. I forgot to add on my first post that looks like alot of fun.
|
RE: Tracer Fun
I'm not real sure I guess. I have a chrome lined bore, so I'm not too worried about it. As soon as my new upper arrives, this gun is getting turned into a play toy. Its going to get a 4 rail handguard, a vertical grip, put my EOTech back on it, also a Magpul collapsible stock, different flash hider, and maybe a suppressor.....
|
RE: Tracer Fun
I use them once in awhile, one every 5th round.....fun but expencive..
|
RE: Tracer Fun
Great pics. That looks like loads of fun.:D

RE: Tracer Fun
I was doing a range with M240 golfs in January, we had the base fire dept. come out twice. The range was nearly all black by the time we got done with it:D

Now, where can I get some for my .223?! |
RE: Tracer Fun
My 223, that I'm shooting in those pics, was $750 for the gun alone.
Those tracers came from Natchez Shooter Supply. |
RE: Tracer Fun
can you get tracers for a .22 mag? i know you can get em for a .22 lr but wondered about the mag
|
RE: Tracer Fun
I've never seeen them for a 22mag before.
22lr 223 308 30-06 50BMG Those are all the ones I've seen recently. |
RE: Tracer Fun
Hey Rammer
Those ricochets are being caused by RABBITS???? Or are you shooting something else to cause that?? |
RE: Tracer Fun
It was -12 or -13 and there was a 20mph wind, so the ground is like concrete. I'm sure it was caused by the ground.
|
RE: Tracer Fun
ya -12 will do that to the ground

RE: Tracer Fun
I really like shooting tracers in my AR, load them every 3rd or 5th, the ammo box still has a 100 or so from my last Ammo Man order, picked up a 1000 bosnian green tips, My AR eats'm like candy!!!

RE: Tracer Fun
Is it legal to hunt with tracers where you live? I don't think it is in Michigan. Might just be for deer, I know I saw in the regs though. You might want to check that out for where you live before you go out again. Hate to see you get in trouble for something.
I pesonally would never shoot them out of any gun I own. Maybe if I had a cheap SKS or Mac 90 or something, but not out of anything I paid good money for. Paul |
RE: Tracer Fun
Its not legal to shoot big game with. Varmints you can bust with whatever you like.
|
RE: Tracer Fun
Gotcha, just wanted to make sure knew is all so you would be covered. Michigan isn't overly picky about what you varmint with either. I just wish we could shoot from an elevated position for woodchucks. I know of a barn with a really nice loft that over looks a big meadow and been field.;)

RE: Tracer Fun
When we shot them in the army, we would shoot for awhile and then go spend the rest of the day fighting fires. Depending where you live, shooting tracers can be damned irresponsible. There will be hell to pay if one starts a major fire both legally and with the anti-gunners. I agree they are neat but the ones I've got, I don't shoot for the above reasons.
|
RE: Tracer Fun
Yep, I limit myself to shooting tracers in the winter time when there is adequete snow cover, or after a fresh rain in the spring when everything is green. No need to start any fires.
|
RE: Tracer Fun
what the hell are tracers
????????????????? |
RE: Tracer Fun
Those look pretty sweet but i think they are illegal in some states.
|
RE: Tracer Fun
they are normal rounds changed Little
most have some magnesium or similar chemical on the tip that burns at high temps around 2200 i think thatput offbright light. The military uses them for sighting when shooting in low light conditions. some people say there also armor piercing and in some state illegal. in most places there illegal for hunting also and beside fun to shoot there is little to no reason for a normal person to have them. But they sure are fun you can buy them on gunbroker for like a dollar or so around ORIGINAL: ox1443 what the hell are tracers ????????????????? |
