how will i clean the winchester? it is like 60 years old and also a 12 gauge. the pump release buttom is very stiff but i dont wanna do anything to screw the gun up

Mossbergman....I've cleaned some nasty weapons for other people before, especially muzzle loaders and what I've found work best for some bad build up is....runbore cleaner with a bore brush heavy in the barrel a few times. what do you mean by leaving the bore cleaner in over night?

I ran the bore brush thru the barrel sloppy/very heavy with bore cleaner and let it set withoutrunning a patch. The cleaner soaked into the foul, next morning I ran the brush with cleaner a couple of times, and the fould lifted out of the barrel. Then I did the snug patch several times and all was clean. This crap was stuck in the rifling, couldn't even see a groove it looked like a smooth bore before I started. That was the most severe case I ran into, most times let the cleaner soak the foul longer than usual, usually does it. Snug patches several times is key also

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKbWcPdTRBI I found this video it shows all the disassembly and reassembly you'll need for cleaning and lubricating your Mossberg 500. if you can't get the barrel clean you could actually remove it and soak it in hoppes. i don't think it would have any negative effect. On my guns, i always over-lubricate all moving parts and touching surfaces. then i put the gun back together and work the action a little bit. then i'll wipe off any excess lubricant. (might have to take the gun backapart to do that)

for your winchester, i'd take it to a gunsmith just to be sure i don't break anything.

yeah i figured out how to clean and dissasssemble and reassemble my mossberg. i will bring thw winchester to gunssmith
