The idea of arming teachers rather than students keeps getting brought up a lot, and while I think it is a good idea, I also believe that at colleges in states with larger rural populations there are going to be many more students who are competent with firearms than teachers. Who would you rather have protecting you in shooting- a student who grew up shooting guns and practices often or a teacher who has little to no experience with firearms and never practices because it's not something they enjoy? A gun is not a useful tool in the hands of someone who never shoots, especially in a high stress situation. If you arm all of the teachers and expect them to effectively put down a shooter you are going to have to make it mandatory that they practice, and think this would be met with much opposition. If you allow students and faculty members alike who have legal permits to carry I believe the end result is a much safer environment because you don't end up with incompetent people carrying guns.

Also, if only faculty members are armed a shooter could theoretically walk into a class while a professor is not paying attention and catch them completely off guard then be faced by no opposition after that. If everyone who has a permit to carry is armed a shooter couldn't incapacitate just one individual then massacre a room full of unarmed people because they would have no idea as to who was armed and who wasn't. They wouldn't know who was going to oppose them.

I would rather protect myself as I think is everyones right to do. As far as all Teachers Armed? The ones I've talked to want nothing to do with it. You can't force it on anyone, but let the people that want to be able to protect themselves do so.
