It's basically just a mossberg 500.

Every part of a Mossberg 500 will interchange with the Maverick 88, just a little less in bells and whistles.

Yes, I have one, paid $150 for it brand new at kmart about 10 years ago. I don't use it very much, but it works fine, no complaints. I've shot regular lead shot, steel, slugs through it, no problem. It is fairly accurate with slugs, although I had a major clusterf__k huntingdeer with it, lol. I've taken ducks, geese, pheasant, turkey, squirrel with it.

Mossbergs are made in the U.S., the Mavericks are made in Mexico i beleive. They are almost 99% the same weapon.

I'v had one for a few years now, mossberg 500 parts do interchange, when I ordered the 18.5" security barrel for mine I ordered it for a mossberg 500. Been a pretty good gun so far, its a workhorse. One good thing if you plan on using it for security is the fore-arm does not overlap the action so no chance of getting stuff caught in there like on some shotguns. Its been reliable for me with 3" buckshot magnum or 2 3/4" 1oz 6 shot.
