284 win and 280 rem (7mm express rem if you're metrically disoriented) are two that are wayyy underrated that come to mind. Probably more too. The 264 win mag was the greatest, I carried one for 25 yrs. But sadly the ammunition companies ruined it with their 'two step' bullets and downloaded factory loading.

i wish that someone would legitamize the 257 stw. talk about a 257 wby killer.
I thought this thread was about factory cartridges that never caught on?
.257 STW personally I feel like the .257wby is too big for the caliber already, I'd rather see a short action, ie .257 WSM than the .257 STW I think. I think if you could squeeze .257 wby ballistics in a shorter cartridge that would be more inviting than getting some extra energy/velocity from a .257, plus I believe i read that the .257 WSM would beat the .257 wby ballistics, sounds like a better choice to both for me.

257 wsm would be great, i just like the stw cartridge and given the time, place and equipment would load these myself. but 257 wby is a great cartridge just like to see something a little better from the ammo/rifle manufacturers, and maybe that would be a 257 wsm, since everyone is going with lighter rifles these days.

Well I see a ton of great idea's so far on this post. How about the uncommon yet highly effective 350 remington magnum. Nothing like having 35 whelen proformance in a short action!!

I have a .350 in a custom shop model with 20" barrel. I can get just under 2700 fps with a 225 partition, favourite rifle
