RE: 22mag, oh what to buy??
The Savage Model 93G is a very nice bolt action. It comes in left hand too.

RE: 22mag, oh what to buy??
I have the Savage 93g also with a cheap simmons 3-9x32 scope on it. Whole thing cost maybe $130 new. Shoots like a dream. Dead nuts at 100 yards and a lot more ummph then a 22lr.

RE: 22mag, oh what to buy??
The main problem that the 10-22 mag had was the extractor/s would be blown out in both rifles-single and double extractor models. This problem was easily corrected by drilling a small hole oin bolt vertically and pressing a small pin to control the travel of the extractor within specs and keep it from being blown out. In the double extractor models-it's wise to install the pin in both sides before firing to prevent the interior extractor from blowing out inside reciever and messing bolt/reciever up. ORIGINAL: DM ORIGINAL: RugerM77.270 The Ruger 10/22 magnum. The 10/22 is one of the toughest and most popular 22's out there and you won't be disappointed. Ruger took them off the market because they have so many problems... Even "they" are disapointed! DM |
RE: 22mag, oh what to buy??
thanks for all the replies guys!!!
first off, are you guys talking about the Ruger K77/22-RMP? I didn't see any 10/22 magnum on their site.... so i'm down to this little list then: Bolt---Ruger K77/22-RMP---$732 Bolt---Savage Model 93FV-----$253 Bolt---Marlin Model 982VS------------$309 Bolt---Remington Model 5---$363 Semi---Remington 597 mag--$476 quite the price range, that ruger is really out there though, wow. is it really that much "better" ? i will probably go with the savage since it's gotten a few recommends here already and the price is good. not really sure i want to spend $400+ ona .22, and doesn't sound like one needs to for an accurate rifle |
RE: 22mag, oh what to buy??
I got a Marlin 925 for $199.99 new and still see them for that price. Its the same as my Marlin 882 (They changed the number to 982 last year its still the same gun. They just drilled and tapped the 982.) but the 882 has a little nicer stock on it.

RE: 22mag, oh what to buy??
The M77 wasn't what I was talking about and I was mistaken and not aware it was removed from the market that is why you can't find it anywhere. The Savage is a great rifle and has excellent accuracy, as well as the marlin. The prices you quoted are a bit high for most. Walmart carries almost all of those and always beats the MSRP.

RE: 22mag, oh what to buy??
I have a savage Model 93 in a 17hmr, accurate, dependable and reasonably priced boltrimfire. It also comes equipped with the adjustable accutrigger, if of interest. I have a buddy who owns a 17HMR marlin, its trigger was horrible however after a trip to the gunsmith it as well shoots equal to my savage. I also haveseveral palswho own CZ 452's in 22WMR & 17hmr, fit/finish heads and tail above either the savage or marlin's.With the exceptionof one super tack driver CZ theyshoot no better then those costing less then 1/2. IME of these 3 for looks, feel and buildthe CZ, for out of the box the savage and for in between in the finish department the Marlin which may need some trigger work done to get the most of it's group potential.
