Hunt...How much bigger are your bucks than what we have down here in the States??? A good buck down here runs 175-200 pounds, and I've killed a ton of them with a .243, as well as 6 black bears (up to about 350 pounds) that were eating my peanuts...With a 100gr CoreLokt, Hornady Interlock or Nosler Partition rifle...

Don't let that get around. There's a number of folks on here that will swear you can't kill a black bear with any less than a 338 magnum!

I love hunting with flintlocks...I started in the mid 70s...I bought this one used in Atlanta at that time...

I ended up hunting with it more than my .243...It was a .45...I have since rebarreled to a .40..
I had a little run in with a bear back in the mid 80s...Decided to build a .54....

It took me 2 years to finish, but she will do a job on a deer...

I just got back from our local Walmart and Canadian Tire stores. Short of a 2 hour drive each way, that's all we got for ammo stores.[:@]

If I understand your post correctly, you are considering buying identical rifles, but one in left-hand. Rifle weight being the same, the 7-08 should have just a tad more recoil than the 243 due to heavier bullet weight in the 7-08, however I feel it would not be a noticeable difference. Personally, I think I would opt for the 7-08. Just a silly millimeter bigger than the 243, but quite capable of doing all you want. JMO.........

NC, nice rifles. The 40 would be illegal for deer here. We have a min .45 rule in effect for deer, bear or moose and that 54 would certainly punch some tickets.
Pawildman, I think availability of ammo will dictate this purchase. I still have the 06's for when they get into the moose later on.

While the .40 is legal for deer here in NC, I rebarreled it for small game...It's a blast hunting squirrels with the .40!!!
btw...I was talking with my younger brother last night and mentioned using the .243 in Canada...A few years back, he was up there and the guide he used actually used a .243 for deer, said it did fine...I've killed about 150 or so with mine, no problems...Good Luck...
