Scope on a Mossberg 500 (410)
I want to throw a scope on my Mossberg 500 (410) It has a vented rib bird barrel on it..I have shot slugs through it no problem with the beed and bird barrel...
Won't even ask if there is a slug barrell for this...answer is no right?
Can I put a scope on this bird barrel? If so, what accessories do I need?
I'm going to play with this at a spot I hunt here in Michigan...its a 50 yard shot max....thought I would try something new considering the short range...
Just mixing things up a bit....
Thanks, Brian

If you have a 50 yard max shot I do not see the reason for a scope. I would put fiber optic clamp-on sights on your vent rib. They will be easy to see and more than accurate enough for 50 yards. Keep in mind that if 50 yards is your maximum, your average shot will probably be about 30. Open sights would probably be better at such a close range.
A .410 is not legal for deer here in Iowa but I would think that it would be OK if it is legal there in MI. From what I have read, a .410 has quite a bit faster muzzle speed than the larger gauges. Good luck with it.

I've got 3 options for you. e-mail me and I can explain what you can do about getting a scope on your 410. Indiana opened up a 410 cartridge season this year and I put scopes on alot of them

the rib rider is a scope rail that screws into your vent rib. i think it recommends lighter scopes or red dot types though. http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm...prodID=AHRRLS3

How old is the gun? It may already be drilled and tapped for a rail on the receiver. Most newer mossbergs are, at least the 20 and 12 gauges, not sure about the 410's. That or you will need a receiver saddle mount or drill and tap the receiver.
I'm not a big fan of mounting scopes to the receiver of a gun with a barrel that can be removed easily and isn't pinned to the receiver. It will not be the most accurate set up you can get.
I agree with the above, Some decent clamp on fiber optic sights would be perfect, especially considering the limited range the 410 will have. Also will be much cheaper in the long run, you can get some really nice clamp ons for less than it will cost you to get a scope, mount and rings. And you won't have to change anything when you want to small game hunt with it.
