WHat is your budget or max amount on this scope?
|
RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
I like the Zeiss Conquest scopes. They will run you around $400.

RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
wanted to keep it round2-3 bills.but damn i like what ive been reading onthe zeiss!!! but may have to settle for a nikon or leupold.
ive heard the leupolds aint what they useto be so pick up a older used one or go with the nikon. or another bushnell? then should i stay with the 50mm or is 3-9x40mm good enough? |
RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
3-9x 40 is plenty of scope ...YOu can snag a 3-9x 40 Bushnell elite 4200 from www.theopticzone.com or from Ebay for a price in the low 2's..That is a very nice scope. WIll mount lower then that 50mm scope and give you a better cheek weld... You can get a Zeiss in the 375ish range delivered from a number of places 3-9x40 would be perfect as well.

RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
I also have a Belgum BAR 30:06. I have a bushnell elite 3200 in 3-9 x 40 and I am well satisfied with it. I have the same scope on my muzzle loader and it takes the heavy recoil with no problem.
You might want to check the mount screws on your scope base, mine loosened up on me and I had the same problem you are now having. |
RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
I'm with oldelkhunter on this one. Bushnell Elite 4200's are very good, the 3200's ain't half bad. The Conquests are darn nice too. Don't forget Nikon (Monarchs and Buckmasters)... they will do the trick. Another sleeper is Sightron. The Big Sky seriers are very good (although more expensive) and the SII's are comparable to the Elite 3200's. Burris Fullfield II's are decent and Weaver Grand Slam's will work. See, you've got lots-o-choices.

You may very well need a new scope, but before you get one check the bases and rings. I bought a Tikka T-3 and used the factory Tikka rings to mount my Nikon Monarch 3-9x40. I couldn't get it zeroed for anything. Knew it wasn't the scope. Ended up that the scope was sliding in the rings. I switched to Leupold rings and bases and haven't had a problem since.

RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
hey swamp you got a deal!! i looked at the trijicon at a dealer near me, but he was way to high priced for my budget!!
wife said if i wait till next xmass she'll pitch in a bill or 2 but i dont think i can wait for her. im just gonna have to sell some of my stuff!!! think im leaning to the ziuss or the trijicon as its my favorite gun and in real good shape. an oldtimer buddy of mine told me get a scope that is worth the same or more than the gun and i will never have to go though this again!!! the gun is worth more than a couple/few bills to me!! |
RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
I have a bar .270, used for deer/antelope out west, I put a leupold vx-iii 4.5-14x40 on it and it looks amazing. I have the B&C reticle which with the right ammo shows me where to aim out to 500yds, when set dead on at 200yds, I shot an antelope at 300yds with 20 or 30mph winds and it went right down! It shows 10mph wind drifts on it as well, got it off ebay for a good deal. Its not the cheapest nor the most expensive scope. Personally price as little influence on me as far as firearms go, I want quality, and if its going to be passed down to my son/grandson, techniqually I'll /they will be saving money.

RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
You will not get more scope for the $$$ than out of a Nikon Buckmasters or Monarch. Great quality and prices. shop around a little and then go to www.theopticzone.com and call Jon and Tammi and ask for a little extra off.
Good Luck |
RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
i took it all apart and it all was tight! would it be worth the ten bucks to send it back to bushnell? went to there site and they dont make a 4-12x50ao any more!
either way im still upgrading!!! |
RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
Zeiss scopes are great. So are Swarovski and Kahles. Schmidt & Bender are excellent-bring money. Nikons are OK, as well as the expensive Bushnells!
A Leupold 2X-7X would be great on a BAR. |
RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
what about the Burrisff2scopes? i dont hear much about them andthey seem to be fair priced, they have what burris calls the forever warrenty. who's tried them and do they compairwith the monarchs orthe 3200?
there's a ff2 3-9x40 with free 8x32 bino's for $189!! that dont sound too bad!!! |

My guy who I deal with all of the time had a Trijicon Accupoint BAC 3x9x40Advanced Dual-Illuminated riflescope (Fiber Optic and Tritium). It had been on the shelf for almost a year.He had a price of $499.99 on it Being near the end of the year I kinda reminded him about what he would have to pay in taxes on his inventory:eek:.said he would take $350.00 for it .I ask if he would take $300.00.He said we will split the difference so I got it for $325.00 I do a lot of business with him so that probally helped.

RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
I think he already bought the best scope for an excellent price so i called up bushnell and discussed the issues i was having, and they told me to send it back and most likely they would offer me an upgrade at a fraction of the cost! either way im buying a different scope for this gun and it would be nice to get a more expesive one butlogic is telling me to go with the monarch. |
RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
got ahold of bushnell today about the scope i sent back [it was a 4-12 x40 ao sportsmans]and they said they had already shipped out a replacement. i told them that in the letter i sent i did not want a replacement! i wanted an upgrade! they asked me what i would like so i said a 3200 4-12 x 40 ao with ballistic reticle. she typed it in and said she would give it to me for 175.00 at my door by friday!! and i could keep the one that already shipped!!!! so i went with it!!! i think it was a good deal considering cabelas sells them for 399.00!
thats great customer service!!!! |
RE: best scope for Belgium BAR 30-06
I own a BAR belgium 270 topped with aleupold vx-iii 4.5-14x40, its the perfect scope I feel, its my muley/antelope rifle, so I wanted somethign more than 3-9. Look on ebay, i've purchased a couple of new scopes there for couple 2-300 less than retail. Personally I'm not a zeiss fan, haven't looked through their scopes, but when binocular shopping, I wasn't impressed at all, bushnell also isn't a fan of mine. Nikon, Leupold, Swarovski, is all i own. started out a Nikon guy, became a Leuopld, which is pretty much the only brand I buy/own now. As far as what they use to be, I haven't heard that, though they do have the new low rise scope etc....which to me seems like a marketing scheme, I dont need a 50 or 56mm objective, my 40mm on that bar is perfect, i do own a 50mm on my .300 and its big. I'd say Nikon or Leupold, spend the money though, how long do you plan to have this rifle? I wouldn't go less than 3-9, I had a 2-7, I think if i would have had a 3-9 I wouldn't have replaced it, but since i was replacing it i went with a 4-12, or 4.5-14.
