Default wanting to refinish my savage

I had to remove some wood from the stock of my savage 110E 30-06, got looking at. decided I wanted to refinish the whole stock, I have never refinished a stock. I want to do it myself to save some money. where do I start

1). Remove stock from barreled action.
2). Strip off old finish. Sand smooth. Clean "crud" from stripping out from checkered areas.
3). Refinish with desired product (several coats, drying in-between) I like Tung Oil myself.
4). Reassemble.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Sign up and check out these pictures. That is what I plan to do with a wood stock of mine.

That looked cool.

only other thing I was wanting to do is add some finger grooves in the grip.

If you use bondo, you can make the imprints with your fingers before it hardens. Then sand afterwards to smooth the grooves out.
