I like the Savages, I just wish they made a shorter barrell for them.. Try the 85 Grain BTHP.. They work good for me..

That exact same thing happened to a friend of mine. And he tried it twice. He eventually went to a two piece Warne base. We could not get the one piece base to work. Tom.

RE: Got my .243

I took the mounts back to Gander today after work and returned them. I looked around for something that would work and wasn't having much luck. That was the only model one piece they had, so I looked at some Leupold two peice mounts and they wouldn't work right either.

I ended up getting some Weaver guide series two peice mounts and some rings. They are basically knock offs of the twist on Leupold design. I took them home to put them on and mount the scope. These things are crappy junk in my opinion. They may be knock offs of the Leupold design, but they are poor version of it. The machining and finish is not all that fantastic and the scope tube would not even fit well in the rings. The heck with lapping, I had to actually sand them[:o]. And they were only 5 dollars cheaper than the leupold stuff. The quality of the two products is not even close in my opinion.

Then once I got the scope on there I found out there is no leeway for eye relief adjustment. The rings are too far apart. And it just so happens the scope is too far forward to get a decent picture, especially when you crank the power up.

I think later this week I will have to go to Cabela's and look around there and see if I can find anything better. I would really like to go with warns again, but I think I will run into the same problem with the scope adjustment. If this had a longer action I don't think I would have even gotten the scope in the rings.

There is a fellow on E-Bay who machines a Picatinney rail for the rifle. Check him out. He has a good product at a good price, and he ships fast. I have one on mine. Below is a picture of one. Tom.

Paul, was the part number for your Leupold base #52318? silver base savage RH 10-16. Maybe you should take it to a Gun shop ( other than Gander)and ask whats going on, there shouldn't be that much of a problem getting the base you want for your Rifle.
Then once I got the scope on there I found out there is no leeway for eye relief adjustment, Thats one reason I like the single base,

Burris claims they have them too. I wouldn't settle for anything less than what you want. Keep looking. Good Luck

go to www.midwayusa.com and you can find the base you need. it will even specify if it is for a round reciever. just be careful, midway has been known to take over your checking account and credit cards. too many toys and goodies.lol lol

RE: Got my .243

Yes that is the part number I had, but they are for the flat receivers, not the round ones.

I'm going to go to cabela's here in a little bit and look around to see what I can find. I want something with a little offset so I can get the scope back a bit farther.

I won't order anything off the net, if I can't see it first I won't get it. Imagine how much of a pain this would have been if I had ordered the original mounts;). I'm sure I will find something suitable at cabela's. I'll take some measurements before I go. It will be easier now that I know what I am looking for. I could probably make the weavers I have work, I just don't particularly like them and will probably end up taking them back.

Thinking about going with silver mounts and rings with a black scope. I have black bases and rings now and I don't like the looks of it. If I get it figured out tonight I will post some picks.

I got it. I ended up using two piece Leupold mounts but I had to reverse the windage mount and put it in front. Works perfect though.

I was originally looking for some offset rings, but they didn't have any high enough, or any at all in silver.

Now I need to bore sight it and get some ammo. Not sure what I want to try yet though.
