Default DPMS LR-308...anyone have one?

I've got the urge to buy an AR like rifle to play with on the range, but I'd like an AR-10 (308) rather than an AR-15. I've looked at DPMS, Rock River Arms, and Bushmaster, and keep coming back to the the DPMS. The version I want is the LR-308 with the heavy 24" stainless barrel, which is the benchrest target/varmint version.

Does anyone have one? How does it shoot? I read about how incredibly accurate the DPMS rifles are supposed to be on their testimonials page, but of course they're only going to put up the most positive reports. I'd like to get an unvarnished opinion on them before I drop $1500 or so to buy one (with some custom options).

I figure that I better get one before January of next year in case that anti-freedom witch Hillary gets elected (Dear Lord help us) and we get the Assault Weapons Ban 2.0 Extreme Edition.

Thanks for your input.

Mike

I looked at the DPMS, but I bought an Armalite AR-10 instead. The DPMS is a really nice gun, but I was worried about resale and figured the AR-10 would resell better.

You might check out Accuracy Systems. They make some pretty awesome AR-10's based on the WSM line. I'm trying to find a CA legal AR-10 so I can build a 7mm WSM out of it.

I also like the DPMS LR-260 in 260 Rem. It's very similar to the LR-308 with a couple of the "upgrades" as standard equipment. And the high BC 6.5mm bullets would make it a great LR rifle. Decisions...decisions!!

I looked at the Armalites, but they must think that they're made of gold if their asking prices are any indicator. The DPMS's seem like a better value. I priced out a rifle spec'd out the way I'd want it (which is basically fully loaded), and it would have an MSRP of $1850 assembled by DPMS. I'd bet actual price would be $1700 or less. Armalite wanted $2200+ for their base models.

I've thought about the RRA rifles and I like them a lot. I live about 75 miles from their factory in the Quad Cities, and they'll allow me to pick the rifle up at the factory if I wanted to.
