best scope
im lookin for a scope for my new rifle and was wondering what you guys think about different brands and what you use?

RE: best scope
What caliber is it and how much do you want to spend? I'll help you spend your money...

RE: best scope
Some say spend twice as much for your scope as you did for your rifle. Don't cheap out on your glass, or you'll never know what you and your rifle are capable of. I like Leupold, but there is a lot of good brands out there. Good Luck

RE: best scope
bushnell elite 4200 or leupold vx-III
|
RE: best scope
The 4200 is a much better scope than the Vari X III
But unless you are planning on shooting more than 300 yards, all you really need is the 3200. |
RE: best scope
i can shoot up to 500 yrds so i like the clearer and cripser image
|
RE: best scope
I agree it depends upon your budget. I mostly use Bushnell Elites and Leupolds. If money is no object, look at Schmidt & Bender. I'm getting ready to sell a couple, but even used those go for well over $1,000.00 each.

RE: best scope
I put an Elite 4200 3-9 on my 270 this summer and I would recommend it. Very clear optics, works in the rain and works great in low light conditions as well.

RE: best scope
I say save your money, don't buy Leupold. IF, you are set on spending that much money, there are better choices for that same 1000. PERSONALLY, for that much money, I like the Nightforce. Though understand that for me, it will double as a tactical rifle as well. For 500 or less, Get a Nikon. I had a buckmaster on a .308 and killed prairie dogs at 700 yds with it. Not as consisitantly as at 500, but still. I got impatient on my last scope purchase, a Leupold MK 4 Long Rang Tactical. I had wanted a Nightforce, but the one that I wanted was not in stock, and the company wasn't sure when I would be able to get one. I would rather have my $400 nikon back than the 1000 Piece of crap Leupold that I have now. 1st Day on the range, 3rd or 4th shot, a chunk of reticle came off. Their customer service is good, but I now have doubts in the product quality.
so, for under 1000. Buy a nikon over 1000, Schmidt bender, Nightforce.....etc. Leupold quality has, IMO gone down the crapper in the last 8-10 years. |
RE: best scope
Leupold, you can never go wrong with them
|
RE: best scope
Better check Kahles out. Excellant scopes. Starting in January, they have severed their working relationship with Swarovski. I'd expect big doings from them as they emerge from under the Swaro shadow.
|
RE: best scope
I use Leupold on all my firearms. Lifetime warranty, crisp clean optics and very dependableunder any conditions.

RE: best scope
ORIGINAL: cartkauffman im lookin for a scope for my new rifle and was wondering what you guys think about different brands and what you use? Most of mine are Leupolds, but I also use a few of the old steel tube Weavers (made in El Paso TX) and several old Lyman All-American Perma-Center scopes too. These may be old, but they are reliable and work as good as they did 30 years ago............ |
RE: best scope
I own Burris, Leupold, Swarovski, Night Force, Weaver, and Zeiss, and all are good scopes. For my money, I think Zeiss Conquest is the best value for quality optics.
