Default Old 30-30 question

I just got my hands on my grandpa's old 30-30 about made in 1949 old. Anyways its an old winchester model 94 lever action top ejecting. My question is, is there any way I could put a red dot sight or something like that on there.

They make a side mount for scopes for the 94. You'd have to drill and tap the receiver to install it. As it is, the gun is a value as a collector. Modifying the receiver will ruin that. I'm afraid that one day you'd regret doing it. My advice is to leave it alone and buy a newer rifle to mount your red dot onto.

A 1949 Winnie 94 is a real prized possession. It should be worshipped, you know? Leave it be and hunt with it using plain iron sights. If you need to reach out longer, get a .270 or .308 or something with a quality scope.

One made in 1949 would make it a pre 64 though that did not matter asfar as design goes but it surely would not have the cross bolt saftey. Among collectors that would be a heck of a piece depending on condition it could be worth asmuch as a $1,000 to $4,000 from some that ive seen. drilling and tapping the reciever would make it not worth much more than a brand new in the box 94 from wally world. Dont ruin it! PLEASE!! Get another from a pawn shop or something. A used 94 of the modern variant you can usually have for $250

Leave that old '94 alone unless you can already see plugged holes from a side mount job previously performed.

Use it as it is and you might very well be surprised at what you can hit with it just with the old irons!

If you must have a lever with a scopethen shop for a used Marlin 336 with a scope already mounted. Then you can upgrade the optics later.

I have never seen a side mount I liked. Not a good idea for accuracy, bad idea for the guns look and value.
